StoryNavigation alternative: StoryNavigation vs Peekd, tested

StoryNavigation (storynavigation.com) is a free website for viewing public Instagram stories without logging in. You type a username, it opens a profile page with tabs for stories, posts, reels and a follower chart. Plenty of people use it to check one account every few days. If that’s you, the real question is usually not “what did they post?” but “what changed?”, and that is where StoryNavigation and Peekd part ways.

We used StoryNavigation on October 12, 2026: we searched a big public account (natgeo), clicked through every tab, and read its features page, about page, privacy notice and terms. Everything we say about it comes from that visit and is listed with sources in our fact sheet. Peekd is our product. We are not affiliated with StoryNavigation, Instagram or Meta. Sites like this change often, so check the current version yourself.

Try Peekd in two minutes

  1. 1

    Check the account is public

Enter the username on the free story viewer page. If it’s private, no tool can help.

  2. 2

    Open Peekd

Go to app.peekdapp.com or get the iPhone or Android app. The free plan needs no card and no Instagram login.

  3. 3

    Add the username

Peekd takes its first snapshot of who the account follows and who follows it.

  4. 4

    Watch stories, wait for alerts

View public stories anonymously, and get an alert with the name when the account follows or unfollows someone.

The short answer

Use StoryNavigation if you want to see a public account’s stories and posts right now, you don’t want to create any account, and the account is large or verified. In our test it loaded current stories for natgeo within seconds.

Use Peekd if you keep coming back to the same person. StoryNavigation’s “Statistics” tab draws a chart of how many followers an account has. It doesn’t tell you who they followed. For that, and for the follower and following lists, the site sends you to a separate Telegram bot. Peekd views public stories anonymously too, and it keeps a dated list of the names an account starts or stops following, with an alert when it happens, on the web, iPhone and Android. No Telegram, no Instagram login.

Neither tool opens private accounts, whatever any website promises about the future.

What Peekd does that StoryNavigation doesn’t

StoryNavigation’s about page says you can “track activity” and “view all the changes that have occurred in the profile”. On the website itself, what you actually get is the current stories and posts, and a chart of follower counts. A count going from 812 to 813 tells you nothing about who that one person is.

  • Names, not numbers. Add a public username to Peekd and it snapshots who the account follows and who follows it, then re-checks on a schedule. When a new name appears, you see it with the date Peekd first spotted it. That answers who someone recently followed, which Instagram doesn’t show in any order you can trust.
  • Alerts inside one app. StoryNavigation points to a Telegram bot for “automatic story updates”, follower lists and likes. Peekd sends follow and unfollow alerts in its own app, so you don’t need a Telegram account or a second service with its own rules.
  • Stories in the same place. Open the tracked account’s public stories in Peekd without showing up in the viewer list. Our free story viewer page checks first whether the account is public, no sign-up needed.
  • Who doesn’t follow back. Handy for your own profile as well. Try the free not-following-back checker.
  • Web, iPhone and Android. Use app.peekdapp.com in the browser or the mobile apps, with one account across all three. StoryNavigation is a website only; we found no app from it on the App Store.

A concrete case. Say you suspect your boyfriend is following a new crowd. StoryNavigation shows his story from last night and a chart where his following count went up by four this week. Which four? The site doesn’t say. Peekd shows the four names and the day each one appeared, as long as you added him before that week. Peekd can’t fill in anything from before tracking started.

Where StoryNavigation is good

Fair is fair. For a quick look, StoryNavigation does its job.

  • It worked. On October 12, 2026, natgeo’s current stories and posts loaded quickly, with no human check in the way.
  • Nothing to sign up for. No StoryNavigation account and no Instagram login on the website.
  • Big accounts are fine. natgeo has more than 268 million followers and loaded without trouble. Peekd doesn’t support verified accounts or accounts above 10,000 followers, so for a celebrity’s story StoryNavigation is the better fit.
  • More media. Posts, reels and tagged media in tabs, with photo downloads as JPEG and video as MP4, according to its FAQ. Peekd doesn’t do downloads or highlights.
  • A follower count chart. Useful if you only care about the trend for a public figure.
  • Five languages, including German.

Is StoryNavigation safe? What we saw

The website never asked for an Instagram password, which removes the biggest risk with tools like this. Here is what else we noticed (desktop Chrome, October 12, 2026):

  • A consent banner said 210 partners may process your data. “Manage options” let us switch everything off, which we did.
  • A lot of ads. Google and Yandex ad scripts, an ad box under the profile tabs, a floating ad bar at the bottom of the screen and an ad tile overlapping the profile card. We saw no redirects.
  • A push to Telegram. Follower lists, following lists, likes, highlights and story updates all link to a bot called @StoryViewersBot. Its Telegram page lists about 29,400 monthly users. We didn’t use it, and the website says nothing about what it costs or what it asks for.
  • Private-account promises. The FAQ says private pages can’t be viewed. The features page says access to “closed accounts” and hidden stories is coming “in the near future”. No legitimate tool can view a private Instagram account. Treat any such promise, from anyone, as a red flag.
  • Little about the operator. No company name or address, just a contact form and an email. The domain dates from 2018 with the owner hidden. The privacy notice is a generic template from October 2024 that doesn’t mention Instagram.

None of that makes it dangerous by itself. Use an ad blocker or a private window, never type a password into anything it links to, and think twice before handing a Telegram bot your account. Our guide to Instagram stalker apps has a fuller checklist, and it applies to Peekd too.

StoryNavigation pricing vs Peekd’s free plan

The website is free and lists no prices. It is paid for by ads. Peekd’s free plan tracks one public account with dated follows and unfollows, alerts and anonymous story viewing, and you don’t need a card. Paid plans add more accounts. The browser tools on peekdapp.com, such as the story viewer check and the not-following-back checker, are free without sign-up.

Which one should you use?

  • One look at a public story, now: StoryNavigation works. Or check the account with our free story viewer and open it in Peekd.
  • A celebrity, brand or verified account: StoryNavigation. Peekd doesn’t support those.
  • Someone you keep checking (an ex, a partner, a friend, a rival small business): Peekd. The follower tracker remembers each change by name so you don’t have to.
  • A private account: neither. Send a follow request.
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is the best StoryNavigation alternative?

For a single look at a public story, any viewer that needs no login will do. If you want to know who an account follows or unfollows over time, Peekd is the better fit: anonymous public stories plus dated, named changes and alerts, without Telegram.

Is StoryNavigation safe?

The website doesn’t ask for your Instagram login, which is good. On our visit it showed heavy ads, a consent banner naming 210 partners and many links to a Telegram bot. Its features page also promises private-account access, which no legitimate tool can deliver. Use an ad blocker and never enter a password.

Is StoryNavigation free?

The website is free and lists no prices. It is funded by ads. We didn’t check whether its Telegram bot charges. Peekd has a free plan that tracks one public account.

Does StoryNavigation notify the person?

No Instagram login is used, so your name shouldn’t appear in the story viewer list. The same goes for public stories viewed in Peekd.

Why is StoryNavigation not working?

Usually the story expired after 24 hours, the account is private or the username has a typo. An ad blocker can also break the page, and free viewers lose access to Instagram from time to time. We found no official status page. If it keeps failing, try Peekd’s free story viewer check.

Can StoryNavigation see private Instagram accounts?

No. Its FAQ says private pages can’t be viewed, even though its features page says this is planned. No tool can legitimately show a private account, Peekd included.
