Insnoop alternative: Insnoop vs Peekd, tested side by side
Insnoop is one of the most searched anonymous Instagram story viewers. You type a username on insnoop.com, it shows that account's current stories, and nobody sees your name in the viewer list. That is a useful trick. It is also where Insnoop stops. This page explains what Insnoop actually shows for a profile, how reliable it was when we tested it on October 12, 2026, and when Peekd is the better tool because you want to know what an account does over time, not just today. Facts about Insnoop come from its own site, privacy policy, terms and our own test lookups. We are not affiliated with Insnoop, and websites change, so check before you rely on any detail.

Try Peekd in about two minutes
- 1
Check the account
Enter the username on the free story viewer page to confirm the account is public.
- 2
Open Peekd
Open Peekd in your browser or the iPhone or Android app. No Instagram login, and the free plan includes one tracked account.
- 3
Add the username
Peekd takes a first snapshot of who the account follows and who follows it.
- 4
Turn on alerts
From now on, new follows and unfollows show up with dates, and you get an alert when something changes. Public stories open anonymously in the app.
The short answer
Use Insnoop if you want a quick, one-off look at a public account's stories or highlights in your browser, and maybe save a clip. It is free, needs no account, and it worked when we tried it.
Use Peekd if the story is only part of what you care about. Peekd lets you watch public stories anonymously and also keeps tracking the account: who it starts following, who it unfollows, with dates, plus an alert the moment something changes. It runs on the web, iPhone and Android, and never asks for your Instagram login.
Most people searching “insnoop” are not doing research on a celebrity. They are checking on one specific person. If that is you, a story viewer answers “what did they post today?”, while a tracker answers “what are they doing?”.
What Insnoop shows when you look up a profile
We ran test lookups on two large public accounts. Each search took a few seconds and the address changed to insnoop.com/?u=username. Here is what the result page contained:
- Profile picture, username, verified badge and full name.
- A Stories tab with a count (for example “14 stories, the last story was added about 13 hours ago”), a relative timestamp under each story and a Download button.
- A Highlights tab. One account had none; the other listed its highlight circles.
- For one account, a “Tagged Users” toggle.
What it did not show: follower count, following count, any follower or following list, the post grid or reels. The profile data the page loads contains no follower numbers at all. Insnoop is a story and highlight viewer, and it is honest about that on its own homepage.
It also keeps nothing over time. Your search history and favorites are stored in your own browser, per its FAQ, but there is no timeline, no record of what changed since your last visit, and no alerts.

What Peekd does that Insnoop can’t
A story viewer is a snapshot. Stories vanish after 24 hours, and Insnoop has no memory of what you looked at. Peekd is built for the questions that come after the snapshot.
Who did they just follow? Say your ex posts a vague story at 1 a.m. Insnoop lets you see the story. Peekd shows you that the same account followed three new people that week, with the date of each follow. That is usually the part people are actually curious about. Our guide on how to see who someone recently followed explains why Instagram's own list can't tell you this reliably.
Tell me when it happens. With Insnoop you have to remember to check. Peekd sends a real-time alert when a tracked account follows or unfollows someone, so you stop refreshing.
Stories and follows in one place. Peekd also opens public stories anonymously, so you don't need a separate viewer site for that part. Start with our free anonymous story viewer page to check that an account is public, then watch inside Peekd.
On your phone, properly. Insnoop works in a mobile browser. Peekd has apps for iPhone and Android as well as the web app, with one account across all three.
Peekd's limits, stated plainly: public accounts only; no verified accounts or accounts above 10,000 followers; no history from before you start tracking; no likes, comments, DMs or profile visitors; highlights are not a feature we claim. The details are on how Peekd works.
Where Insnoop is the better pick
Insnoop deserves credit for a few things. It is instant: no sign-up, no email, no app. It covers highlights, which Peekd doesn't claim. It lets you download a story as a file, which Peekd doesn't offer. And its FAQ says plainly that it cannot show private profiles, which is more honest than many viewer sites.
If you want to glance at a brand's stories once, or save a public clip for reference, Insnoop does that with less friction than any tracker.
Is Insnoop safe? What we found
You never give Insnoop an Instagram login, which removes the biggest risk with Instagram tools: handing over your password. During our test there were no pop-ups, no redirects and no ad units on insnoop.com. The page loaded Google Analytics and Google reCAPTCHA, and its code includes an ad component that was not active when we checked, so that can change.
A few things are worth knowing before you use it:
- No named operator. The site, terms and privacy policy name no company, address or country. The domain was registered in April 2024 with the owner hidden behind a privacy service.
- The privacy policy and the FAQ say different things. The FAQ says it doesn't track user behavior. The privacy policy (effective July 14, 2026) lists your IP address, pages visited and time spent, plus analytics, and says automatically collected data can be kept up to 24 months.
- Copycat domains exist. Several other sites use the Insnoop name with different designs and ad setups, and one redirected to a different viewer when we tried it. If you use it, type insnoop.com yourself.
General rule for any viewer or tracker, Peekd included: never enter your Instagram password, ignore anything that promises private accounts, and don't download content to repost it. Our guide to Instagram stalker apps has a longer checklist.
Is Insnoop not working? Common reasons
Viewer sites depend on fetching data from Instagram, and that breaks from time to time. Insnoop's own code has messages for exactly these cases: “We are experiencing high traffic, please try again”, “Server Temporarily Unavailable”, “No profile found” and “Profile is removed”. The last one suggests some profiles are taken off the site, for example after a request from the owner.
If it fails, check the username, make sure the account is public, wait a few minutes and try again. If you were only using Insnoop to keep an eye on one account, that is a good moment to switch to something that does the checking for you.
Who should use which
- A one-time look at a public story or highlight: Insnoop is fine.
- Saving a public story as a file: Insnoop.
- Watching one person over weeks, partner, ex or crush: Peekd, for the dated follows and alerts.
- Keeping tabs on a competitor or creator: Peekd, so you see new follows and collaborations when they happen.
- A private account: neither. No legitimate tool can show private accounts, and sites that say they can are not telling the truth.
Frequently asked questions
What is Insnoop?
Insnoop (insnoop.com) is a free website for viewing public Instagram stories and highlights without being listed as a viewer. You enter a username, no login needed. It can also download stories as JPEG or MP4 files.
Is Insnoop safe?
It doesn’t ask for your Instagram login, and we saw no pop-ups or redirects on insnoop.com in October 2026. It doesn’t name who runs it, and its privacy policy says it logs IP addresses and pages visited. Use the real domain and never enter a password.
Can Insnoop see private Instagram accounts?
No. Its own FAQ says it only works with public accounts. No tool can legitimately view private accounts, Peekd included.
Does Insnoop notify the person?
Insnoop says you won’t appear in the story’s viewer list, because you aren’t watching through your own Instagram account. The same goes for Peekd’s anonymous story viewing.
Why is Insnoop not working?
Usually high traffic, a temporary server problem, a typo in the username, a private account, or a profile that was removed from the site. Its own error messages cover these cases. Wait and retry, or use a tracker that checks the account for you.
Is Insnoop free?
Yes. Its site says it is free with no membership or sign-up. Peekd also has a free plan that tracks one public account.
What is the best Insnoop alternative?
For quick story peeks, any honest viewer works. If you want to know who an account follows and unfollows, with dates and alerts, plus anonymous story viewing, Peekd covers both on web, iPhone and Android.
