See who doesn’t follow you back on Instagram

Instagram has no built-in list of the accounts you follow that don’t follow you back. This free checker builds it from your own data download: drop the file in, and it shows who doesn’t follow you back, who follows you that you don’t follow, and who follows you both ways.

No login, no password and no upload. Your export is read inside your browser and discarded when you close the tab.

How to download your Instagram data

  1. 1

    Request your data

In Instagram, open Accounts Center → Your information and permissions → Download your information and export only Followers and following as JSON (full guide).

  2. 2

    Download the ZIP

Instagram emails you when the file is ready, often within minutes. Download it while the link is valid.

  3. 3

    Drop it into the tool

Drop the ZIP above as it is. It is read in your browser and never uploaded.

How the check works

Your Instagram data download contains two lists: followers_1.json (people who follow you) and following.json (people you follow). The tool lowercases every username and compares the two lists. Anyone in following but missing from followers lands in the “Not following you back” tab. The reverse, people who follow you while you don’t follow them, sits in its own tab.

Each name opens the profile on Instagram, so you can look before you decide anything. Use the search box to find one person, copy the list to paste it elsewhere, or download it as a CSV for a spreadsheet.

What the result can and can’t tell you

The list is a snapshot of the day you requested the export. A few things are worth knowing before you act on it:

  • Brands, creators and celebrities rarely follow back, so expect them on the list. That is normal, not a snub.
  • Deactivated or deleted accounts disappear from followers but may linger in your following list for a while.
  • Recent follows may not have followed back yet. The dates in the list show when you followed them, newest first.
  • The export tells you who isn’t following back, never why.

Unfollowing the people on your list

Instagram offers no bulk unfollow, so you’ll tap through profiles yourself. Mass-unfollowing quickly or with third-party bots can trip Instagram’s limits, so go in small batches and skip any account you’re happy to keep following. Run the check again with a fresh export a few weeks later to see what changed. The unfollow guide shows a safe routine.

A snapshot or a live feed?

An export is a one-off picture, and you’d need to download a new one each time. Peekd works the other way around: it watches a public account and alerts you when its follows and unfollows change, each with a date. It only works with public accounts, tracks nothing before you start, and the free plan covers one account. See how Peekd works for exactly what it can and can’t see.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Why does Instagram not show who doesn’t follow me back?

Instagram shows your followers and following as two separate lists and doesn’t compare them for you. Comparing them is exactly what this tool does with your own export.

Will anyone know I ran this check?

No. The tool never contacts Instagram and never contacts the people on your list. It only reads the files you give it.

Is it safe to use my Instagram data here?

Yes. Your files are never uploaded: the ZIP is read by JavaScript in your own browser tab. It even works in airplane mode once the page has loaded. Delete the ZIP when you’re done.
