Who unfollowed you on Instagram?

Instagram never tells you who unfollowed you, and it keeps no history of your followers. But your own data download does contain your complete follower list on the day you request it. Download it twice, some weeks apart, and the difference between the two files shows exactly who left and who joined in between.

This tool does that comparison for you. Both files stay on your device, and nothing is uploaded.

How to download your Instagram data

  1. 1

    Request your data

In Instagram, open Accounts Center → Your information and permissions → Download your information and export only Followers and following as JSON (full guide).

  2. 2

    Download the ZIP

Instagram emails you when the file is ready, often within minutes. Download it while the link is valid.

  3. 3

    Drop it into the tool

Drop the ZIP above as it is. It is read in your browser and never uploaded.

How to find your unfollowers

You need two exports. Download one now and keep the ZIP (name it with the date). Come back in a week or a month, download another, and drop the older one into the left box and the newer one into the right. The tool lists:

  • Unfollowed you: in the older followers list, missing from the newer one.
  • New followers: in the newer list only.
  • You unfollowed / You started following: the same comparison for your own following list.

If you already have an old export lying around, perhaps from a past backup, you can compare it with a new one right away.

Why someone may be gone

A name missing from your followers does not always mean a deliberate unfollow. The person may also have deactivated or deleted their account, changed their username, been removed by Instagram, or blocked you. The files contain no reason, so this tool shows the facts and leaves the interpretation to you. Renamed accounts are the usual false alarm: they can show up both as “unfollowed you” and, under the new name, as a “new follower”.

What “recently unfollowed” means

Some exports include a file called recently_unfollowed_profiles.json. Despite the name, it lists accounts you unfollowed recently, not people who unfollowed you. When the file is present, the tool shows it in its own tab so you can see who you dropped and when.

Get unfollow alerts without comparing files

Comparing exports works, but you only learn about a change when you run it. Peekd checks a public account regularly and alerts you the day someone unfollows, with the date next to every change. Peekd only tracks public accounts and starts from the day you add one, so it can’t reveal past unfollows. The free plan includes one account.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can I see who unfollowed me with only one export?

No. A single export is a snapshot of today’s followers and has no record of who left. You need an older export to compare against, which is why it pays to download one now and keep it.

Does Instagram notify people when I compare exports?

No. The comparison happens only in your browser. Instagram and the people on your lists are never contacted.

Can Peekd show unfollowers from before I started?

No. Peekd builds its timeline from the first time it sees an account, so earlier history isn’t available. For older changes, an old export of yours is the only source.

Is it safe to use my Instagram data here?

Yes. Your files are never uploaded: the ZIP is read by JavaScript in your own browser tab. It even works in airplane mode once the page has loaded. Delete the ZIP when you’re done.
