Export your Instagram followers to CSV
Want your Instagram followers in a spreadsheet? Instagram lets you download your data, but the follower files come as JSON or HTML that Excel and Google Sheets can’t open cleanly. This tool converts them to a tidy CSV with three columns: username, profile link and the date the follow happened.
It works on your own account’s export and runs entirely in your browser, so the list never leaves your device.
How to download your Instagram data
- 1
Request your data
In Instagram, open Accounts Center → Your information and permissions → Download your information and export only Followers and following as JSON (full guide).
- 2
Download the ZIP
Instagram emails you when the file is ready, often within minutes. Download it while the link is valid.
- 3
Drop it into the tool
Drop the ZIP above as it is. It is read in your browser and never uploaded.
What you get in the CSV
Each row is one account. The columns are username, profile_url and a date column in YYYY-MM-DD format. For your followers that date is when they followed you; for your following list it is when you followed them. Dates come from the timestamps in the export, so they are only as complete as Instagram made them, and some older entries may have none.
The file opens in Excel, Numbers and Google Sheets. It is UTF-8 with a byte-order mark, so special characters survive in Excel.
What people use the list for
- A backup of who follows you before you change or delete an account.
- Sorting and filtering in a spreadsheet, for example by follow date.
- Giveaway and community admin, such as checking entrants against your follower list.
- Comparing snapshots over time by keeping a dated CSV each month.
Limits to know about
The export covers your own account. Instagram does not let you download another person’s followers, and this tool can’t get around that. Private data stays private. You also get usernames only, with no names, bios or follower counts, because the export doesn’t contain them. If your account has a very large following, Instagram splits the list over several files (followers_1.json, followers_2.json and so on) and the tool merges them.
Tracking someone else’s public account
If you’d rather follow the changes of a public account over time, Peekd records new follows and unfollows with dates and alerts you in real time. It tracks public accounts only, up to 10,000 followers, and the free plan covers one account. See how Peekd works.
Frequently asked questions
Can I export another account’s followers?
No. Instagram only lets you download data for your own account, and a legitimate tool can’t read other people’s full follower lists from it. Be wary of any site that claims otherwise or asks for your password.
Why are some dates empty?
The date comes from the timestamp stored in your export. When an entry has none, which can happen with older or HTML-based files, the date cell is left blank rather than guessed.
Can I export followers and following together?
Yes. Both lists are loaded from the same ZIP. Use the tabs to switch between them and download each list as its own CSV.
Is there a limit on how many followers it handles?
No fixed limit. Lists with tens of thousands of accounts work, though the on-screen list shows them in batches. The CSV always contains the full list.
Is it safe to use my Instagram data here?
Yes. Your files are never uploaded: the ZIP is read by JavaScript in your own browser tab. It even works in airplane mode once the page has loaded. Delete the ZIP when you’re done.
