Recentfollow vs Peekd: how to really see who someone recently followed

If you searched for Recentfollow, you probably want one thing: to see who someone has been following lately. Recentfollow (recentfollow.com) promises exactly that. Type a username and it shows a list sorted “from newest to oldest”. Peekd answers the same question differently: it snapshots a public account’s following list, re-checks it on a schedule and gives you a dated log of every new follow and unfollow, with alerts. Below: how recent follows work on Instagram, what Recentfollow offers and costs, and which tool fits you. Everything about Recentfollow comes from its own website, its App Store listing and its Trustpilot page, checked on October 12, 2026. We are not affiliated with Recentfollow, and its details can change.

How it works

  1. 1

    Open Peekd

Go to the Instagram follower tracker or install the iPhone or Android app. The free plan needs no card.

  2. 2

    Add the public username

Enter the account you want to follow. No Instagram login and no password, and the person is never notified.

  3. 3

    Let the first snapshot finish

Peekd saves who the account follows and who follows it. This is your starting point.

  4. 4

    Turn on alerts

From now on, new follows and unfollows appear with dates, and you get a notification when something changes.

The short answer

Use Recentfollow if you want a quick, one-time look at an account’s follows and you accept that the order on the list is the tool’s best guess. Use Peekd if you want to know for sure what changed and when: a public account’s new follows and unfollows with the date Peekd first saw them, real-time alerts, anonymous story viewing, and a free plan that works on the web, iPhone and Android.

The difference sounds small. In practice it is the difference between an answer and a guess.

Why “recent follows” is harder than it looks

Instagram does not show dates on anyone’s following list. On your own list you can sort by Latest or Earliest. On someone else’s list there is no sort menu at all, and the order you see is not a reliable timeline. The top tends to mix in accounts the person interacts with, and it can shift between visits. Instagram also removed the Following activity tab back in 2019, which used to show what people you follow had just followed. More in our guide to following list order.

So a one-off lookup tool has the same problem you have when you scroll: a list without dates. It can reorder the list, but it cannot prove the first name was the last follow.

There is exactly one method that works: save a copy of the list, check again later and compare. Whatever appears in the second copy and not the first is a new follow, and you know the window it happened in. That is how Peekd works. For the manual version, see how to see who someone recently followed.

What Recentfollow is (and which one you found)

A few products share the name, which confuses searchers:

  • recentfollow.com (“Recent Follow”) is the main web tool. Its FAQ calls it “an online tool for viewing the recent followers or following of any public Instagram account”. It also lists story, post and highlights viewers, a “Red Flag Finder” and “Account Admirers”. The site is clearly aimed at partners and exes; most of its testimonials are about boyfriends and girlfriends.
  • recentfollow.app is a separate, similarly named site. When we checked it on October 12, 2026, it returned an access error.
  • “Recent Follow - Follow Tracker” is an iPhone app whose developer is listed as Bob Wei. Its listing links to two different websites, so we could not confirm who runs it.

The rest of this page is about recentfollow.com unless we say otherwise. Its site does not explain how it gets the data or how it decides which follows are “newest”.

What Peekd does that Recentfollow doesn’t

It gives you a record, not a single look. Say you want to know if your ex followed someone new this week. A one-off lookup shows you a list today. Look again next Tuesday and you have two lists and no idea what changed. Peekd keeps the history: “followed @name, first seen October 14”. That date is something you can actually reason about.

It catches unfollows too. Someone following an account and then quietly unfollowing it two days later never shows up on a list you check once. In Peekd it shows up as two dated events.

It tells you when to look. Real-time alerts mean you don’t have to keep checking. You get a notification when the tracked account changes, in the browser or on your phone.

It is open about what it can’t do. Peekd works with public accounts only, not verified accounts or accounts above 10,000 followers, and its timeline starts the day you begin tracking. It can’t show likes, DMs or profile visitors, and we say so up front.

It does more than one job. One account covers follow tracking, who doesn’t follow back and the anonymous story viewer.

Where Recentfollow is good

Credit where it is due. Recentfollow does not ask for your Instagram password, and its privacy policy says it does not collect or store Instagram credentials. That already puts it ahead of tools that want you to log in. It is fast to try, with no app to install, and it bundles a story and post viewer. On Trustpilot it shows 4.5 stars from about 29 reviews as of October 2026, with reviewers praising its speed.

Is Recentfollow safe and legit?

What we could check:

  • No password needed. Good. Your own Instagram account is not exposed.
  • No company details. The site names only “Recent Follow”, with no legal entity or address. Contact is by email.
  • Numbers that don’t line up. The homepage says 400,000+ users, the FAQ says 150,000+. The homepage shows a rating of 4.95 from 22,258 reviews but does not link it to any store or review site.
  • Pressure tactics. Every page carries a “Flash Sale” banner with a countdown and “Only 4 Spots Left”.
  • Refund terms differ between pages. The terms describe a 7-day refund guarantee, the refund policy limits refunds to technical failures, and the About page says “No refunds”. Subscriptions renew automatically.
  • Its own terms flag the risk. They say the service does not guarantee data accuracy and that using it “may breach Instagram’s or other platforms’ terms”.

General advice for any tracker, ours included: never give out your Instagram password, ignore promises about private accounts or profile visitors, and read the refund policy before you pay. Our guide to Instagram stalker apps has a longer checklist.

Recentfollow pricing vs Peekd’s free plan

Recentfollow’s FAQ calls it a free tool, but the plans page we saw lists one paid option: the “Expert Plan” at $14.00 per week, shown next to a crossed-out $35.00, with a quarterly option advertised at 30% off. At $14 a week, that is roughly $60 a month. Prices may differ by country and change often.

Peekd has a free plan that tracks one public account, with no card needed to try it. Paid plans add more tracked accounts.

Who should use which

  • You want a quick look at one account today and don’t mind that the order is an estimate: Recentfollow can do that.
  • You want to know what someone followed this week, with dates: Peekd. Start tracking now and every change after that is logged.
  • You want to be told when it happens: Peekd’s real-time alerts.
  • The account is private: neither tool can help, and you should distrust any tool that says it can.
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is Recentfollow?

Recentfollow (recentfollow.com) is a web tool that says it shows the recent follows and followers of any public Instagram account, sorted from newest to oldest. It also offers story, post and highlights viewers. It is not affiliated with Instagram.

Is Recentfollow free?

Its FAQ says it is free, but when we checked in October 2026 its plans page listed a paid “Expert Plan” at $14.00 per week in the US, with a quarterly option. Peekd has a free plan for one public account.

Is Recentfollow accurate?

Its site does not explain how it decides which follows are newest, and its terms say it does not guarantee accuracy. Instagram shows no dates on other people’s following lists, so any one-off lookup is an estimate. Comparing snapshots over time is the reliable method.

Does Recentfollow notify the person you look up?

Recentfollow says the person will not know. Instagram does not notify anyone when a third-party tool reads a public profile, and the same is true for Peekd, which never logs in to Instagram.

Can Recentfollow see private accounts?

No. Its own refund policy says it does not get into private accounts. Peekd also works with public accounts only.

Recentfollow not working: what can I do?

Similarly named sites come and go; recentfollow.app returned an error when we checked. If a lookup fails or looks wrong, try tracking the account in Peekd instead. You will get a dated record from the first snapshot onward.

What is the best Recentfollow alternative?

For seeing who someone recently followed with dates and alerts, Peekd: dated snapshots, real-time alerts, no login, anonymous story viewing, and a free plan on web, iPhone and Android.
